Community Living
The Arc offers many residential options for individuals and families.
At Home Services: The Arc helps people make their own choices about where and how they want to live, and gives them the support to do so. Emphasis is placed on helping people develop community connections and friendships while living on their own or with family and friends. Services include respite, day habilitation and residential habilitation.
Individual Residential Alternatives: We offer 24-hour supervised living in homes for two to 12 people across Orleans County. Our staff helps with self-care, cooking, cleaning, money management, medication administration, and other areas.
Supportive IRAs: This is a great option for people who need minimal support. We provide up to 21 hours a week through our program to help people live in an apartment rented by The Arc.
Home of Your Own: We help people with disabilities acquire and maintain their own home. The federal Department of Housing and Urban Development and the state Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities establish qualifications and funding criteria.
Family Care: Adults with disabilities, who may never have had the benefit of living with a first or extended family, are matched with a community family.
Mental Health Community Residence: Our 12-bed residence is the only program that offers 24-hour care to people who have a serious mental health diagnosis in Orleans County. Respite services are also offered at the residence in conjunction with the Orleans County Mental Health Department.
