Employment
Thousands of people with developmental disabilities can and do work. They work hard, providing value to their employers and contributing to this nation’s economic health.
Some of the best-qualified people for your job openings are people with disabilities; people who have proven to be productive, with good attendance records and loyalty to the job and the employer.
The Arc of Orleans County has worked hard with area businesses to create career opportunities for people with disabilities. We have a number of programs and services that can help you hire and train employees with disabilities.
Our job coaches provide specialized on-site training, accompany the employee to the job to help the worker learn tasks or make suggestions to the employer about suitable adaptations to accommodate the worker.
As the new worker becomes familiar with the job, the job coach gradually withdraws from the work place, but is always available for retraining or consultation, if necessary.
