Residential Services
The Arc offers many residential options for individuals and families.
The Community Living and Family Services programs work together to help
people make their own choices about where and how they want
to live, and give them the support they need to accomplish these
goals. Emphasis is placed on helping people develop community
connections and friendships.
Individual Residential Alternatives offer twenty-four
hour supervised living in various sites throughout Orleans County
for two to twelve people per location. Staff provides assistance
with self-care, cooking, cleaning, money management, medication administration,
and other areas as needed.
For those needing minimal support, up to twenty-one hours per
week, Supportive Apartments are a good option. Residential
Habilitation provides assistance to people living in their
own homes or with their family.
The Home of Your Own program provides assistance for
people with disabilities in acquiring and maintaining their own
home. HUD and the Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental
Disabilities establish qualification and funding criteria.
Another great residential alternative is Family Care. Adults
with disabilities, who may never have had the benefit of living
with a first or extended family, are matched with a community family.
The Arc's Mental Health Community Residence offers a
unique service. Funded by the Office of Mental Health, the twelve-bed
residence is the only program that offers 24-hour care to people
who are overcoming a serious mental health diagnosis in Orleans
County. Respite services are also offered at the residence in conjunction
with the Orleans County Mental Health Department.
